Ambassador Thomas Hans Ossowski was born on July 1, 1967, in Karlsruhe, Germany. He is married and the father of one daughter and one son.

Before taking up his post as Ambassador at the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany in August 2025, Ambassador Ossowski served as Head of the European Union Delegation to Turkey in Ankara. Prior to that, he was Germany's Representative to the EU Political and Security Committee in Brussels. His previous assignments include Ambassador to the Philippines, Palau, Micronesia, and the Marshall Islands, Civil Head of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Kunduz, Afghanistan, Political Advisor to the NATO Commander in Kabul, Deputy Head of Mission in Rwanda, and Political Officer at the German Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Within the German Federal Foreign Office, Ambassador Ossowski has held several key positions, including Special Representative of the German Government for the EU Multiannual Financial Framework negotiations, Deputy Director General for European Affairs, Director for Enlargement, Migration, and Sanction Policies, and Director for Bilateral Relations with Member States. He has also served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the German Foreign Minister, EU Policy Coordinator, and as a member of the German Task Force for the EU Convention.

Before joining the German Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Diplomatic Academy, Thomas Ossowski studied political science, international law and EU law at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) and – as Erasmus student – at the Universita Cesare Alfieri di Firenze.

Ambassador Ossowski holds a private pilot's license, enjoys horseback riding and all types of sports.
